A Microsoft Edge WebView2 update can cause Working Papers to close unexpectedly when opening Caseware Cloud engagement files.
Answer:
Microsoft Edge WebView2 version 146.0.3856.62, released by Microsoft on March 15, 2026, causes Working Papers 2025 to close unexpectedly when users open a Caseware Cloud engagement file. This incident affects our users who use Working Papers integrated with Caseware Cloud.
Option 1
- Close Caseware Working Papers
- Download this patch
- Unzip the patch
- Install the patch
Option 2:
Users can download and open Working Papers Engagement files through the Caseware Cloud website using an external browser (i.e. Chrome, MS Edge).
Option 3:
- Close Caseware Working Papers.
- Open your Working Papers installation folder. By default, this folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Caseware.
- Open the CV.VER file in a text editor, such as Notepad.
-
Add UseEdgeBrowser=0 under [Version] :
-
-
In Windows File Explorer, delete the contents of the following folders:
%temp%\Caseware_CEF
%temp%\Caseware_CEF_CV
%temp%\Caseware_EdgeBrowser
This workaround makes Working Papers use the internal Chromium Embedded Framework instead of WebView2.
If your firm uses SSO or 2FA, enable the CloudAPAuthEnabled registry key. You might also need to configure Chrome policies to match your existing WebView2 settings so existing behavior, such as session timeout, stays the same.
Caseware is also working with Microsoft on a permanent fix. We will share updates as they become available. We apologize for the disruption and appreciate your patience. If you need help, contact Caseware Support.
